aboutA little bit about The MM Alliance 

Middlesbrough and Masvingo Alliance is a Community Interest Company (CIC) tasked to revive the twinning agreement between the two councils in April 1989.Our challenge is to evoke the same spirit that the relationship was launched more than 30 years ago and interpret it in today’s language making the vision plain and relevant.

With just over 2 years since we started we have been mandated and supported by both the council of Masvingo and Middlesbrough. Our office in the United Kingdom has enjoyed support from the Mayor of Middlesbrough’s office and Zimbabwean Embassy in the UK.

Our links and connections are growing by day as we welcome local business communities and friends of MMA to participate in programmes and initiatives to promote cultural exchange and business growth.

featuresWelcome to Middlesbrough

Dating back to the Saxon times, Middlesbrough was born on a slightly elevated land close to the River Tees to supply labour to newly created coal port on the banks of the river Tees – Port Darlington.

As Middlesbrough developed in the 1800s, it attracted several new businesses such as shippers, butchers, merchants, joiners, blacksmiths, builders, painters and innkeepers.

FORMS OF TWINNING01. Training Exchange

Partnering with local academic institutions based in Middlesbrough as well as internationally
renowned providers of technical training and consultancy services.

To facilitate delivery of skills development programmes for technicians and graduates in the engineering, energy, process, chemical, mining and manufacturing sectors.

These sectors are the driving force behind economic growth in Zimbabwe and the UK. We are honoured to be in conversations with Training providers who are keen to work with structures in Zimbabwe to train people in these fields and also help local institutions to build capacity so they can provide the world standard training and qualifications.

FORMS OF TWNNING02. Technical Exchange

Technical exchange will involve people from one town visiting the partner town to help in the
implementation of specific projects or activities. We are working with the Masvingo Town Clerk's office to identify projects that businesses, organisations and institutions from the North East can help. These range from construction projects, agriculture, mining, energy to mention a few.

FORMS OF TWINNING03. Information Exchange

Information exchange initiatives will involve visits by people and organisations from both towns to exchange information and will not include formal training but will involve study tours and student and tutor experiences.

We are excited about this as we are in advanced communications with local
academic institutions to make this information exchange possible in 2023.
